Dr. Michelle Harvie and Professor Tony Howell are the creators and authors of the 2 Day Diet. According to the two, participants can achieve vast amounts of weight loss by only dieting two days each week, with the other five days being on a Mediterranean type of diet.*
The two “diet” days on the 2 Day Diet are low-carbohydrate days. No more than 50 grams of carbs are to be eaten on those two days. The 2 Day Diet book includes a list of suggested recipes for both the two diet days and the remaining five days. With this approach, the authors say they have personally witnessed their own patients losing more weight versus simply reducing calories.*
Do Dieters Lose Weight On The 2 Day Diet?
Participants on the 2 Day Diet should lose at least some weight in the short term. This will be primarily due to the fact that their calories will be restricted as a general rule of thumb. Because the 2 Day Diet restricts carbohydrates for two full days and then promotes a diet filled with leaner food options for the remaining five, the overall result is calorie restriction.
However, that is where long-term weight loss could be in jeopardy. Should a participant stop sticking to the rules set forth by the 2 Day Diet, much of their weight loss could be gained back. If care is not taken, all the weight could be gained back and even more weight can eventually be packed on.*
Is The 2 Day Diet Easy To Follow?
The 2 Day Diet is not going to be an easy diet for many to follow. The restrictions that come with it are many and can prove taxing on many individuals, especially those who are accustomed to eating out on a frequent basis. Not to mention, some of the foods on the Mediterranean type of diet are specialized foods. These foods are neither inexpensive nor always easy to obtain.
Additionally, the diet does not cover any aspect of fitness, so it leaves those without a great deal of fitness knowledge to fend for themselves in that area, which can be a daunting task in itself.
The 2 Day Diet book costs around $15.00, but what it contains should be considered. Really, it is nothing more than a part-time, low-carb diet and a part-time Mediterranean diet with no mention of fitness whatsoever. In essence, it is getting participants to reduce their daily caloric intake. So, even though the authors claim this approach is better than a simple reduction of calories, in reality, it is simply another way in which to reduce calories and not a good source for overall long-term weight loss success.*
