The Chocolate Diet is a diet plan that was devised by Sally Ann Voak. She also wrote a book called The Chocolate Diet. The idea behind the Chocolate Diet is to allow participants a daily helping of chocolate. Voak says restricting it totally makes dieters want to binge eat the sugary substance. By restricting the consumption of chocolate at first, the idea is that you can slowly add it back into your diet safely without weight gain.

The Chocolate Diet actually restricts all chocolate consumption for the first week of the diet. It’s in an effort to cleanse the system and prepare it for the rationed chocolate diet. During that week the participant is encouraged to figure out what type of “chocoholic” they are. It is broken down in the book by six sections. Once they figure this out they can then find corresponding low fat meal plans to go by based on a caloric intake of 1,000-1,300 per day. By following the diet Voak claims you can lose seven pounds in one week*.

If you think you are going to be eating a diet full of chocolate all day, think again because you will only be consuming about 150 calories worth per day. For snacks you will create a chocolate style shake to sip on in between your consumption of around 1,100 calories each day.

Do Dieters Lose Weight On The Chocolate Diet?

Dieters that follow the Chocolate Diet the way it was intended will likely lose weight. They just have to make it through the initial two weeks. However, any weight loss that is realized will not be because of the added chocolate in the diet, but rather due to the low levels of calories allowed and the restriction of fat.

Additionally, all dieters participating are expected to work out on a daily basis. So, just by restricting calories and exercising every day some weight should come off. This is not a very popular diet to many, as the name is rather deceiving at best.

Is The Chocolate Diet Easy To Follow?

With a name like the Chocolate Diet you would think it is super easy to follow. However, upon closer inspection this diet is little more than a low fat calorie restrictive diet that allows participants to have little bits of chocolate each day. In addition to restricting the number of calories you can have each day the Chocolate Diet also eliminates certain foods and food groups which can make cravings come up regularly.

For example, coffee is supposed to be replaced with tea. Yet that might not be easy for you if you are used to drinking three cups of coffee each day. There are not definitive rules and guidelines for the dieter either. This can greatly inhibit ones ability to get started on the program. Overall, this program will not give you the results you are looking for long term. This is why it has been said to be somewhat misleading overall.

Conclusion

The search for a diet that allows you to eat mounds of chocolate all day long will have to continue. The Chocolate Diet is nothing more than a cleverly packaged low fat and calorie restrictive diet that lets you have snippets of chocolate, but only after the first week.

The diet is one that is balanced and when followed to the letter, it is somewhat healthy. However, it teaches little more than you learned in elementary school. So you really don’t need to spend the $20 on the book just to find that you are not eating all the wrong things.
