The AARP Diet is based on what is said to be the largest study ever conducted on the diet and lifestyle of Americans. When followed properly, Whyte claims participants can lose up to ten pounds in two weeks.

With this special diet plan that is a mix between the Mediterranean Diet and a typical American diet, participants are given a 30-day meal plan that serves as a guide in regards to what should be eaten, but Whyte intends for all participants to learn healthier eating habits, and lifestyle habits, over the course of the 30 days.

Throughout the book he covers many myths regarding dieting and also touches on things that will hinder weight loss, such as skipping breakfast, and things that will help dieting, like never saying “supersize.” When combined with the recommended 30 minutes of exercise, at least three times per week, the AARP Diet claims to be the solution that many overweight and obese individuals have been waiting for.

Do Dieters Lose Weight on the AARP Diet?

Dieters partaking in the AARP Diet will definitely lose weight in the short-term, if they follow the diet plan and exercise three times per week. However, after the 30 days of the diet are up participants who do not continue on with the good habits learned will more than likely suffer setbacks in regards to long-term weight loss. In fact, there might be situations where any weight loss that was realized was lost and then additional weight put on, if stricter and more healthy guidelines are not constantly followed.

Is the AARP Diet Easy to Follow?

The AARP Diet is well laid out and offers some very useful information in regards to dieting. However, for those who are truly overweight and/or obese, the diet might not offer a very smooth transition. It does allow for certain foods to be eaten and doesn’t restrict a lot, but participants do have to figure out the proper mix of their favorite foods in order to effectively lose weight once the 30-day plan is up.

Additionally, the AARP Diet is one that requires participants to work out three times each week. However, the book does little to explain what kind of exercises will best compliment the diet, other than recommend walking. So, those who are not accustomed to working out might struggle in this department as simply stating that exercise, like walking, is needed is not much guidance.

Conclusion

The AARP Diet book can be purchased for around $20 and the food on the diet is nothing out of the ordinary. However, the information the book contains is really nothing that has not been covered in tons of other diet books. It’s simply sound advice that has been repeated. Ironically, AARP stands for the American Association of Retired Persons, suggesting the book is geared to inform America’s older generation, who are precisely the ones who already know that lower calories plus exercise equals weight loss, so the $20 can simply be saved.
