What Is Anavar?
If you want to build muscle, you might be considering taking Anavar. Anavar is the band name for oxandrolone, and it can also be found under names like Lonavar, Protivar, and Oxandrin. While the names are different, the product is the same.
Various manufacturers make this anabolic agent, so prices vary. Many people spend $150 for 60 10-mg tablets, although it is possible to get propriety blends of Anavar for less. However, not all of the proprietary blends contain oxandrolone, so be wary of them.
Before you start using Anavar, you likely have a lot of questions. Get the details on the Anavar claims, Anavar results, and more, so you can make an informed decision.
Doctors prescribe Anavar to help patients lose weight after undergoing extensive surgery, severe trauma, or chronic infections. It’s also prescribed for those who cannot maintain a normal weight and to relieve bone pain that’s associated with osteoporosis.
In addition to the intended use, manufacturers of the drug make various claims about what it can do for your body. First, they claim that Anavar can improve your performance by increasing your red blood cell count. That causes more oxygen to go to your muscles, so you can work out longer than normal. You can also push yourself harder and increase your intensity by having more oxygen in your muscles.
Manufacturers also claim it speeds up recovery by increasing anabolism. That makes protein synthesis faster, so your muscles will recover quicker. Because of that, you don’t have to wait as long in between workouts. That means you can squeeze more workouts into the week, making it easier to build muscles.
This drug is also supposed to help people get stronger without building mass. When you take Anavar, your muscles are supposed to contract more than normal during a workout. This process strengthens the small muscle fibers that you usually miss during a workout. Because of that, people are supposed to build lean muscle when using Anavar. That is what makes Anavar popular for both genders. Women often want to get strong without bulking up, and they supposedly should be able to achieve that with Anavar.
Anavar manufactures also claim it speeds up the metabolism, which helps people burn fat faster at the same time, it preserves the muscle, so you are supposed to end up shredded and lean.
If you were to receive Anavar from a physician, it would contain 2.5 mg or 10 mg of oxandrolone. In addition, these pills contain the following inactive ingredients:
- Magnesium Stearate
- Hydroxypropyl Methylcellulose
Some manufacturers also include other ingredients. Be mindful of what you’re taking since some products might not provide the same results.
The drug is meant to be taken in cycles, and each Anavar cycle should last no more than six weeks. The amount you take during the cycle depends on what you want to accomplish.
If you want to improve your athletic performance, take 10 mg to 30 mg a day during the Anavar cycle. If you want to look lean and cut, go with 20 mg to 80 mg a day. If you prefer to bulk up, you’ll need to take 40 mg to 100 mg a day. Never take more than 100 mg a day, and at the end of an Anavar cycle, wait at least eight weeks before resuming a cycle. That’s because Anavar is hard on your liver and could cause health problems if you take it for too long.
The Science (or Lack Thereof) Behind Anavar
Various studies have been conducted about the anabolic steroid Anavar. These studies provide a great deal of information regarding Anavar results.
The Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism published a study titled, “Short-Term Oxandrolone Administration Stimulates Net Muscle Protein Synthesis in Young Men.” The study determined that a single dose of 15 mg a day promotes net muscle protein synthesis.
Another study, titled, “The Effects of Oxandrolone and Exercise on Muscle Mass and Function in Children with Severe Burns,” is also very interesting. People who suffer from severe burns often lose their strength and muscle mass. Earlier studies had shown that oxandrolone helps patients with wasting conditions maintain their muscle mass, and other studies have shown the same is true with exercise. Researchers decided to combine the two to have a better understanding of Anavar results.
Researchers followed 51 burned children. Some children received oxandrolone. Others took oxandrolone and exercised, and the last took a placebo and did not exercise. The results showed that the group that took the steroid and exercised enjoyed the highest increase in weight and lean body mass. This indicates that combining exercise and the steroid can help people who want to build lean muscle mass.
Studies have also been done on healthy patients. Once such study is titled, “Treatment with Oxandrolone and the Durability of Effects in Older Men.” This study followed 32 healthy men ages 60–87 years old. The men received 20 mg of oxandrolone each day or a placebo. Those who took oxandrolone had short-term improvements in lean body mass, strength, and muscle area. The study also followed the participants after they stopped taking the drug. Twelve weeks later, they had basically maintained their improvements in fat mass, but the anabolic improvements were lost. That shows that some Anavar results can go away after discontinuing use of the drug.
These are just a few of the studies that have been done on Anavar, and the results are overwhelmingly positive that it promotes muscle mass and weight gain.
Word on the Street About Anavar
The word on the street is mixed about Anavar. Those who wonder about Anavar for women will be interested in one reviewer’s claim that it “really helps to develop hard muscle mass while burning fat stores around it.”
A male user said this about Anavar: “Love it., although (it is) a bit expensive to buy. My gains have been solid and strength increases have been steady. I can relate to the slight lack of energy and darkened urine and a slight bit of joint pain, but other than that, no real problems. Seems to help burn fat but keep your muscle in the process.”
Still, others have warned about Anavar side effects. One male user stated, “I had a serious heart attack after (taking) a pill of Anavar anabolic steroid for one day. I ended up in (the) hospital for two weeks. After (I) got out of (the) hospital, I had to take a treatment for the heart. It’s been 5 years now. I can have a heart attack anywhere.”
Another review echoed the concern about Anavar side effects. She said, “Did it for about a week. Developed very painful swollen lymph nodes, unusual sleepiness, and difficulty breathing. The cons far outweighed the pros for me.”
The Bottom Line: Is Anavar Worth a Try?
Risky. Studies show that Anavar can help people build muscle mass without bulking up, and it can also help burn fat. However, this substance should only be taken under the care of a doctor. The Anavar side effects might not be as dangerous as some other steroids on the market, but it can still harm your heart, liver, and other organs. Taking it to enhance workouts could lead to significant health problems. Those who want to increase their lean muscle mass might want to consider going another route, such as boosting protein or trying a different supplement.
