Fiber supplements are important when looking to lose weight because fiber keeps you full for longer periods of time without a lot of extra calories. On the main website, there is a very short ingredient list that says the only active ingredient is Wheat Dextrin. But regular Benefiber has Wheat Dextrin as its only ingredient, too. So what’s the difference? According to LiveStrong.com,
Both products contain wheat dextrin as the source of fiber. The main difference between the two supplements is serving size, and therefore the amount of fiber and calories. The standard Benefiber serving size is 2 teaspoons, which contain 15 calories and 3 grams of fiber. Healthy Shape contains 30 calories and 5 grams of fiber in 1 rounded tablespoon of the product. 
There are no studies done on the website as to why Wheat Dextrin is a magical ingredient, but there is information around other sources. There are some conflicting studies done on the effectiveness of Wheat Dextrin and weight loss, however. One study published in the 2015 Nutrition Today stated
A recent comprehensive review of available clinical data concluded that resistant starch (soluble, non viscous, fermentable; eg, wheat dextrin) had no significant effect on satiety or weight loss at physiologic doses. A yearlong study in 97 adolescents has been quoted as demonstrating weight loss for a “prebiotic” fiber supplement (soluble, non viscous, fermentable), but a closer look at the data shows that the prebiotic fiber group (8 g/d) was not different from baseline for body mass index. 
Another meta-study, published in 2009 in the Journal of International Medicine, confirms that wheat dextrin is certainly no magic pill for weight loss. But Benefiber never claims that; and the study does reveal other health benefits.
The evidence suggests that soluble fibers help to regulate the digestive system, may increase micronutrient absorption, stabilize blood glucose and lower serum lipids, may prevent several gastrointestinal disorders, and have an accepted role in the prevention of cardiovascular disease. Many individuals take this product daily for a plethora of reasons, including to help them feel full between meals in relation to weight loss. On Amazon.com, 27 reviews gave it 4.2 out of 5 stars. 75 reviews on Walmart.com rate it the same. “Joni” (2017, 5 stars) said, “It dissolves quickly and is very filling. I used this product more to assist me with being regular given the level of fiber in this product. It did assist with that however I can’t say that I noticed a suppressant of my appetite. I have been eating smaller healthier meals prior to beginning this product so it could be possible that I am eating a little less with each meal. I am not skipping any meals because I feel full though. 
Again, Benefiber Healthy Shape does not claim to be a “magic pill” for weight loss. So it makes sense there are no reviews touting it as such. It is fiber—that simple. The only side effects reported were some mild gastrointestinal issues, but most fiber supplements have those same issues, and they all offer the same advice: start slow. The cost is affordable, the side effects are minimal, and fiber has been proven to keep you more full for longer periods of time, so if you are looking to curb some cravings this might be a good option for you.
