Ionamin Review

Ionamin Review
3.8 Total Score
Reading Time: 5 minutes Ionamin diet pills are a certain weight loss drug that is otherwise referred to as phentermine Ionamin. It is meant to be an appetite suppressor that is usually prescribed by a doctor to people who are obese with a BMI of over 30. It is better known as a short term obesity treatment, and if you do not see results rather quickly, the chances of you seeing results at all are very slim. At the very most, patients are said to be on Ionamin for no longer than 3 months, and there have not been any long term studies done on the effectiveness of the product past that time frame. [1] This product is a prescription medication and the manufacturer of the diet capsules is Packpharm Ltd. The manufacturer makes two different types to choose from, either 15mg or 30mg. For a 30-tablet supply you will pay around $70.00, for a 90-tablet supply you will pay around $227.80, and for a 60-tablet supply you will pay around $138.90.

Ionamin Claims

Many of the claims made about this diet drug are more warnings, background information, and precaution about how it could be dangerous if taken the wrong way. I wanted to include a lot of the warning signs and side effects that could potentially occur when taking these Ionamin slimming tablets so that everything is out on the table.    There are side effects when it comes to taking this diet pill. It is quoted from a retail site who regularly sells this product:   “The most dangerous side effects of Ionamin are as follows: cardiovascular events (including heart attack and stroke), and psychiatric disorders (including drug dependence, psychosis). The daily dose of Ionamin above 30 mg can cause overdose and severe side effects.” [1]  “Ionamin Capsules are indicated only as short-term monotherapy for the management of exogenous obesity. The safety and efficacy of combination therapy with phentermine and any other drug products for weight loss, including selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (e.g., fluoxetine, sertraline, fluvoxamine, paroxetine), have not been established. Therefore, the coadministration of these drug products for weight loss is not recommended.” [3]  “One capsule daily, before breakfast or 10-14 hours before retiring. For individuals exhibiting greater drug responsiveness, IONAMIN ’15’ will usually suffice. IONAMIN ’30’ is recommended for less responsive patients. IONAMIN is not recommended for use in pediatric patients under 16 years of age.” [4]  “IONAMIN is a sympathomimetic amine with pharmacologic activity similar to the prototype drug of this class used in obesity, amphetamine (d- and dl-amphetamine). Actions include central nervous system stimulation and elevation of blood pressure. Tachyphylaxis and tolerance have been demonstrated with all drugs of this class in which these phenomena have been looked for.  ”Drugs of this class used in obesity are commonly known as “anorectics” or “anorexigenics.” It has not been established, however, that the action of such drugs in treating obesity is primarily one of appetite suppression. Other central nervous system actions, or metabolic effects may be involved.” [5]

The Science (or Lack Thereof) Behind Ionamin

When looking into all of the claims made above and the side effects that come along with taking Ionamin, it is clear that this is definitely a prescription drug, not something you can just go pick up at your local Target. There are many adverse side effects you have to watch out for, but why? What is the actual science behind this formula, and why it has been said to help people who are obese drop pounds quickly? Last year in January of 2016, however, there was a release of Ionamin from the company Hi-Tech Pharmaceuticals touting the weight loss drug as “open to the public” and available over the counter.   According to Hi-Tech’s President Jared Wheat,

“Ionamin® really is the pre-eminent diet aid on the market right now because unlike most of the weight loss supplements on the market, it actually has two product-specific studies that provide evidence of efficacy. One study was conducted on Ionamin® and its effects on the metabolic rate. The second study was an 8 week weight loss and fat loss study that showed it caused people to lose 208% more weight and 385% more fat than placebo! It is a product dieters can trust to help them achieve their weight loss goals.”  The problem with this claim, is they do not give any insight to the studies past a brief recap of the results. [6]

This is how Hi-Tech claims the drug will work:

“The principal mechanism of its action relies on its indirect stimulation of the adrenergic receptor system, which is part of the sympathetic nervous system (SNS), by increasing the activity of noradrenaline at the postsynaptic a- and ß-receptors. Ionamin® has indirect sympathomimetic effects and due to its ability to cross the blood brain barrier, it is a CNS stimulant similar to ephedrine and other stimulants as it releases noradrenaline and dopamine. This helps you feel like doing more activities resulting in additional weight being lost due to exercise when combined with Ionamin®.” [6]

The red flag lies in the lack of scientific studies available to the public, yet there are claims made by Hi-Tech Pharmaceuticals about the weight loss numbers being out of this world. The bottom line is that if you are thinking about taking the Ionamin pills, you really should be supervised by a medical professional due to the many side effects that have been proven. Irritability, insomnia, addictive behaviors, personality changes, and hyperactivity are also some other side effects that are pretty common. Because this is an additive prescription drug, its use really should not be taken lightly.

Word On The Street About Ionamin

When looking into Ionamin reviews, it gets a big fat F for customer satisfaction. I think it is funny how Hi-Tech Pharmaceutical tries to play up a product like this when they are well aware of its harmful tendencies. Those who took Ionamin weight loss pills all suffered side effects, and yes, they lost a little weight, but it did not come without a price. Because it manipulates your central nervous system, patients with hypertension or even hyperthyroidism really should stay away from taking it. Here are a few reviews done by customers with no names given that are worth taking a look into.

“DO NOT TAKE! This is a pill from the devil. I’ve done all sorts of weight loss pills & this is bad. I couldn’t sleep for about 2 weeks. Had severe unquenchable thirst, slight shakiness & slight rapid heart beat. Became extremely depressed & sad, crying about anything. Cried cause the wind blew my hair into my eyes, & cause I dropped my pencil-seriously. I became very easily annoyed, aggravated & angry over the most petty things.” (2.5.2015, 1 star) [7
“I loved the energy it gave me, it made me feel very outgoing. But unfortunately I have an addictive personality and I knew I was enjoying it too much which is why I stopped taking it to keep from substance abuse. I would recommend to those who have tons of self control. An addict of any sort should stay away though.” (11.19.2015, 4 rating) [7
As you can see from just the few reviews done by some customers, the information does not add up from what the guys trying to push the drugs are saying and the people who have actually tried it. This diet pill increases your risk for side effects and it is borderline dangerous when it is all said and done. There is nothing good about this product other than the fact that it might be prescribed to a person who really needs to lose a few pounds in order to get a surgery done to become a healthier individual. Dosing yourself with Ionamin is not a good idea if your BMI is under 30, and if it is over, you should still get it cleared with your doctor.

The Bottom Line: Is Ionamin Worth A Try?

Definitely Not.  Where do I start here? It is borderline dangerous, and it is expensive. The side effects that are almost a guarantee to come with it are not pleasant, and they are intense to say the least. This product is only meant for short term use because it is so potent and strong, meaning it is really not good for your body at all. There are some spotty retailers that sell it, but it is really meant to be taken under medical supervision only. The risks outweigh the positives, so I would not recommend taking this product if you are looking to lose fast weight unless you want to suffer the side effects almost immediately.
