The Lose It app was created by Charles Teague and the company went international in 2015. With over 50 million members, this weight loss and food tracking app has hit the big time with its customer base. Similar to MyFitnessPal, this app for losing weight has different formulas built in that tell you how many calories you are burning for the exercises you are doing. It also has a barcode scanner to make logging a packaged food item rather simple.
They also have a new feature that is called “Snap It” where you can take a picture of the food you are eating, and it will recognize it! Now that is innovative. Is it the best app to lose weight? While it might not be the best, it sure is at the top! One difference between MyFitnessPal and Lose It is the food database differences, as MyFitnessPal has more food items to choose from than Lose It does, especially in the restaurant department. [1]
Charles was not always interested in the health and fitness world first and foremost, but he knew whatever his work was at that point in time, he wanted to make an impact on people’s lives for the better. He is doing just that for millions of people worldwide. According to the Daily Meal,

He and his team created a very innovative and helpful app for those looking to lose weight and really have an honest look into their health and fitness goals.
How Lose It Works

To start off with, Lose It app free for users unless they go the premium route. There are some major differences between the free application and the premium. For example, for the free application you will have access to your: weight, steps, exercise calories, Snap It food feature, barcode scanner, reminders for both the iPhone and Android and social media sites like Twitter and Facebook.
If you go premium, you will get a more detailed experience with access to known information about goal setting, personal coaching, body fat, water intake, sleep tracking, hidden support groups, access to more fitness applications, blood glucose levels, and detailed nutritional information. It costs $39.99 per year and will give you overall access to many things you might want to take advantage of. [3]
This app’s weight loss track record has been said to be positive with both the regular and the premium programs. Going back to how the general application works, when you first get to the website or lose it app download, you will need to log in with an email and a preferred password. There are four main questions it asks you when you sign up: your birthday, height, weight, and gender. There are even opportunities for a Lose It premium discount that can make this plan more affordable! With a user-friendly interface, the Lose It app download is quick and simple, allowing you to start tracking your food intake and exercise immediately.
It will then ask you what you want your goal weight to be so that it can set some goals for you. You can tell the app how quickly you want to lose X amounts of pounds, and it will give you a breakdown of calories for the day that will help you reach that specific goal. Once you get inside the application and have your goals all set up, it will show your number of calories for the day right in the middle.

The app recommends you weigh yourself daily, which is different from MyFitnessPal which only recommends it once per week. In the goals tab, you can record your weight and track your progress there. This app is mainly meant for weight loss only, not weight gain or weight maintenance. There is a challenge tab that allows you to create and participate in public challenges alongside other members.
There are some fun ones to join in on, especially during the holidays when keeping your weight down is the hardest. Another fun setting inside of the Lose It free app is the “How To” section, which gives you detailed articles based on how to lose weight fast, efficiently, and correctly. Whether it is through exercises, calorie logging, or different foods you want to eat to hit your goals, there are articles to read.
Because everyone’s goals are going to be different, there are support groups you can be involved in. Are you walking to lose weight? Or do you prefer running to lose weight? Whatever exercise you incorporate into your daily routine, log it in the app for credit and talk about it to spark conversation. This specific company can sync with most fitness applications (more on premium) such as FitBit, Garmin, and Nike Plus, so it won’t be hard to stay on track.
Overall, the interface is user-friendly and straightforward to use for the beginner. It does not ask you too many questions, and you can set goals to your own comfort level. If you upgrade to premium, you will have the opportunity to dive even deeper into your weight loss goals, and results, and even start groups that are not public for everyone to see.
You also will have access to health coaches who can help you out personally and you can sync a lot more fitness-tracking devices to your app to track your exercise levels better! Either way, both interfaces can get you to your goals, it just depends on how detailed you want to be.

When looking at the Lose It app reviews, it was a great turnout in general. For the most part, the reviews were all very positive with some critiques here and there regarding the exercise options, and some people had a hard time making corrections to inaccurate data entry. Simple things like this set people off, but for the most part, this app has been said to be user-friendly on most devices. The database is not as large as MyFitnessPal for food, but it is still really large, to say the least. The Snap It feature was by far a crowd favorite, because it makes the data entry process much faster!

The scale measures BMI, hydration, and weight. All of these are transferred to your phone and the app via BT. It could not possibly be easier. “I have the free version and for what I need it’s a pretty good app. I like that it gives me a goal achievement date and daily calorie allowances to help me get there. It also breaks down my daily nutrient consumption so I know just how much carbs, fats, and proteins in a day. The Bottom Line: Is Lose It a Rip-Off or Worth to Try?
This innovative app gives people the opportunity to really track their caloric intake, exercise levels, and burn ratios with a simple application. While some prefer the information to go on their phones, others like the computer (which is okay because Lose It offers both). It is both user-friendly and very fun to use, so you should not have a problem getting the hang of it. The pros outweigh the cons for sure.
It is free and easy to use, but it can be time-consuming at first before you get into the habit of adding each food item you eat during the day. If your goal is to lose weight, this might just be the right app for you to download and get the ball rolling!
I have never really done a weight loss program for more than 2weeks.
This one is awesome I don’t have to buy expensive food that I don’t like. I can pre input what I want to eat and if it has to many calories I can just change to something else I like. once you get the hang of it you find it helps you make the right choice and learn is that donut really worth it. My goal first goal is 50 pounds I am to lose 1.5lbs a week.
I have been at it for 12 weeks and am losing 1.25 lbs a week I have lost 15lbs and for me that is truly amazing and I plan to stick with it until that first 50 and than the next 44lbs. than I will be not considered obese in the IBM zone. no matter what even if I do not get to this goal I feel better joints don’t hurt not all tired out anymore. this will be a way of life for me to feel better and understand what I am eating.

This app is simply amazing. I lost 50 pounds in about 6 months just by using the free version and tracking what I ate. I am now using it for maintenance.
Love this app. I don’t have premium subscription but have lost 25 pounds since Christmas. Seeing the numbers, Suggested calories per day, calories eaten, calories over, etc helped me 100%. You don’t need the premium subscription for it to work. Logging every food helps you see just how many calories you are shoving into your mouth. I wish I could post a before and after
It sure would be nice to have a help feature! I can’t seem to find any! I am not only trying to lose weight, but trying to count carbs. Many of their preload are incorrect. I thought I could snap a bar code to get accurate nutritional info? NOT!
Just for fun let’s hit the “ The Bottom Line: Is Lose It a Rip-Off or Worth a Try” question.
1st it’s has different levels, there’s a free membership or use of the application, free and you can stay at that level forever if you choose. Then there’s a paid membership, more bells and whistles, they are good to great to use and aide in your weight loss. But are not required to lose weight, they add to the program but not so much that without them the program needs them to help you achieve your goal. Also in the paid options are different levels of how you pay and different widgets, again they add to the program but are not essential to reaching your goal. The long and short of it is, you still have to do the work to reach your goal. This system is an aide to assist you, it won’t do the actual work, that’s on you. It’s like real life, you get out of it what you put in to it. No pills that are bad for your body, no promises of instant weight loss (like all the Dr Oz weight loss programs advertise on damn near everything (cough cough Facebook ????) it helps you realize what you put in your mouth effects how your weight loss goes. It’s also helps you realize how exercise contributes or aides to your weight loss and health.
absolute minefield trying to unsubscribe!!! there is no way to cancel your subscription!! nothing works – none of their instructions look anything like the screens – they just will not allow you to leave!!!
App never crashes like WW, costs much less and allows you to substitute fresh fruit as opposed to the weight watchers snack bars with your high in calories and sugar. Easy to add meals (everything is there quickly). Syncing with my Garmen is perfect! WW crashed when using my Fitbit or didn’t sync at all. I have lost weight in my 1st week along with feeling better because I am eating healthy and smaller portions along with exercising every day.
Started this on March 29, 21. as of Jan 18, 22, I have lost 100.6 pounds. It does work if you stick with it. I have had cheat days that I set to maintain instead of an amount to lose each week. I like that I can eat what I want. All I have to do it stay below the calorie allowance, and I lose weight.
I’ve been using “Lose It” premium for a few years on and off. I really like the program a lot as now you can view your days calories as well as your macros! The down side is that lately they changed the measurement amounts to pounds, ounces and grams that you log in that you consumed and took off the cup and spoon measurements and I have always measured most of my food that way! It baffles me because I don’t have any idea how many “grams” of each food that I consume! I am thinking of changing to a different plan for that reason! Pretty disappointed that they changed that part of logging my food!
