Perricone MD Health & Weight Management Claims
When looking into the company’s return policy, they state that they have a 30-day money back guarantee, and that they won’t refund a product that is heavily used. It takes around 14-days to get your refund back in total. But more importantly, what are their claims about the weight loss supplement? When looking into where the products are actually sold they say,
“Our products can be purchased on our website, call center, and flagship store locations as well as Sephora, Ulta, NeimanMarcus.com, Nordstrom, Beauty.com, Dermstore.com, and QVC.com.” [2] “Nutritional supplements are an essential part of Dr. Perricone’s 3-Tier Approach to a healthy body and beautiful skin. This daily dose of nutrients is designed to support healthy weight maintenance. The supplements are organized for convenience into morning, noon, and evening packets. Tip: Take each packet 30 minutes to 1 hour before meals.”
They claim each packet comes with Super Antioxidant, Tyrosine, and Alpha Lipoic Acid Capsule, DMAE Capsule, Co-Q10, Evening Primrose Oil (EPO) Soft Gel – A rich source of Omega-6, Acetyl L- Carnitine Capsule, CLA (Conjugated Linoleic Acid) Soft Gel, and a L-Carnitine Capsule. When looking into what they said about DMAE,
“Provides ultimate firming benefits to skin beginning to lose elasticity; enhances facial contours and delivers a “lifted,” tightened, and toned appearance to the skin; diminishes the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.” [1]
Lastly,
back to menu ↑“It assists in increasing metabolism and decreasing body fat while boosting energy levels and satisfying the appetite. Targeted nutritional supplements are an essential part of Dr. Perricone’s 3-tier approach to a healthy body and beautiful skin and the supplements are organized for convenience into morning, noon, and evening packets.” [3]
The Science (or Lack Thereof) Behind Perricone MD Health & Weight Management
Being predominantly a skin care line, there were minimal claims about the weight management supplements doing absolute wonders for the body. When looking into the science behind some of the ingredients used in the supplement, there was information worth noting. When looking into studies on DMAE, they had a study done on its effectiveness in the dermatology department. “DMAE is an analog of the B vitamin choline and is a precursor of acetylcholine.” [4] The company claims that DMAE helps reduce the appearance of wrinkles and tones while tightening the skin. The conclusions of the study were: “The role of acetylcholine and the role of DMAE as a modulator of acetylcholine-mediated functions in the skin remain to be elucidated. Thus, the benefits of DMAE in dermatology include a potential anti-inflammatory effect and a documented increase in skin firmness with possible improvement in underlying facial muscle tone.” Very vague claims are made in regards to weight loss and how effective the other supplements are in that department. Primrose is used primarily for skin health, tyrosine and alpha lipoic acid is used as an antioxidant, acetyl l-carnitine is for brain health as well as an antioxidant, and conjugated linoleic acid, which is the weight loss portion of the supplements.
What exactly is CLA?
It is an omega-6 fatty acid that is best known for its ability to help manage a healthy weight. According to Healthline,
“CLA is a type of polyunsaturated fatty acid, with both cis and trans double bonds. In other words, CLA is technically a trans fat, but it is a natural type of trans fat that is found in many healthy foods.” [5]
When looking into actual studies done on the effectiveness of taking CLA daily and how it pertains to actual weight loss, I was surprised in my findings. There have been many different studies paralleled against each other regarding CLA and its tie to weight loss. The findings from a series of studies done by the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition stated:
“Despite the multitude of human clinical trials testing the effect of CLA on body composition, the effect of CLA has been controversial because significant effects of CLA on body fat have not been consistently reported. Our analyses combine the varied study results to draw conclusions about the body of evidence as a whole. In our analyses, we were able to focus the studies to show that CLA does indeed cause a modest, but significant, reduction in fat loss of about 0.09 kg/wk relative to subjects in placebo groups.” [6]
While there was some weight loss shown, it was not enough to rave about by any means. There is a lot of supplementation going on with the Perricone health package, which can be a real downer for those who really don’t like to take pills. There is more emphasis on antioxidants and skin versus actual weight loss being seen from the ingredients shown. Let’s see what the customers who bought these expensive supplements had to say about their overall effectiveness below.
Word On The Street About Perricone MD Health & Weight Management
The Perricone MD reviews were rather consistent, but many people were taking them for overall wellness, not really just for weight loss purposes. There was word that the supplements were extremely expensive, so if they do not fit in your budget, you might not want to bank on them for solely weight loss purposes, and there was also word there were a ton of supplements to remember to take each day. People who made the commitment to taking the Perricone weight supplements said it was important to make sure you exercise and eat healthy to help the supplements work to the best of their ability. But isn’t this the case with any supplement you take? Denise (2016, 1 star),
The Bottom Line: Is Perricone MD Health & Weight Management Worth A Try?
Depends. This is not just a weight loss supplement, and there have been no real red flags that have stood out to me other than the high price. It is like you are paying premium price for vitamins and minerals, just due to the brand name. Those who took it for weight loss purposes only were disappointed that it did not work fast or as effectively as they would have liked. Others, however, did like the way their bodies felt overall when keeping to a vitamin routine with this health weight management system. It is expensive and somewhat effective, but they are no miracle pills by any means.
