The Raw Food Diet itself can be comprised of several variations. This all depends on the dieter and whether or not they choose to approach the diet as a pure vegan or if they allow themselves to have some types of uncooked meats, such as sashimi, and/or unpasteurized cheeses and milks.

Basically, nothing is off limits as long as it is all-natural and uncooked. So, plant based foods that have not reached a temperature of greater than 115 degrees Fahrenheit are a staple with the diet, as are freshly squeezed fruit juices. Other nuts and legumes are okay as long as they are organic and/or raw in nature.

  • Type: Low-Calorie
  • The Aim: The aim of the Raw Food Diet is to lose weight all while helping to maintain and improve the environment.
  • The Claim: The Raw Food Diet claims natural enzymes that are found in many raw foods have the ability to help your body reach its peak levels and will help the pounds fall off as well.
  • The Theory: The theory of “raw foodism” is one that dated all the way back to the late 1800’s. This is when a doctor found that he could cure his own ailment simply by eating a raw apple. So, raw foods are foods that have not been cooked, processed, microwaved, or touched in an unnatural way. Foods such as nuts, fruits, vegetables, and other unspoiled goodies are all a part of the Raw Food Diet.

Do Dieters Lose Weight on the Raw Food Diet?

Losing weight on the Raw Food Diet is all but guaranteed as long as you stick to the plan. However, it is important to keep in mind that this type of diet will have you consuming far fewer calories than normal which might lead to weight loss, but there is much debate over the safety of that weight loss.

Even though the Raw Foods Diet is limited on what can be eaten it is relatively easy to hit certain marks using the 2010 Dietary Guidelines for Americans as a benchmark. The Raw Foods Diet conforms in areas such as proteins, carbohydrates, salts, fiber, potassium, calcium, and Vitamins B-12 and D. However, fats are sometimes lacking and all the other nutrients can prove to be a challenge to achieve at acceptable levels without careful food planning on your part.

Is the Raw Food Diet Easy to Follow?

As far as tasty food to eat, the Raw Foods Diet is one that doesn’t disappoint. Since you are the one who prepares all the foods you can season with natural ingredients making dishes taste the way you want. However, it is important to keep in mind that you do in fact have to prepare all the raw foods.

This is not always as easy as it seems and you have to keep in mind that you can’t cook anything, microwave anything or buy pre-packaged goods of any kind. So, the end result on the table may be more natural and may taste the way you want, but it might not be so easy to prepare. Forget about any quick meals on the go. But, the good news that comes with that is the reduced calories of the raw foods in the diet means you can eat more of them if you desire and this will help keep you feeling full.

Conclusion

Natural living comes with a big price tag and the Raw Food Diet is no different. Expect to pay top dollar for food as you will have to go to specialty shops that carry a wide range of organic and raw foods and you will have to pay more for them versus their processed counterparts at the local grocery store. Add to that cost some needed equipment like a heavy duty blender, mixer, shredder, and even a dehydrator and you could be potentially looking at over $1,000 in additional expenditures.

The Raw Food Diet does not promote exercise and instead sticks to diet only. However, this doesn’t mean you can’t workout while on the diet. Just be aware that your energy level may lack just a bit if you are not eating enough raw foods that will help promote energy via calories. Use caution here as the diet already restricts the calories which in turn get used as fuel when you are being active. Too little fuel can equal too little energy and trouble for you while working out.

  1. In answer to a few of the questions above….. We went off of it because my grown children who were home did not want to stay on it longer and I did not want to cook two kinds of meals every day. If you are wanting to loose weight, this worked for me better than anything else except the C.H.I.P. program. The hardest part for my family was still wanting other foods. I am still feeling today that a raw diet mixed with other foods that are highly good for you….a vegan diet, is the best. The easiest part was seeing the pounds drop. What a joy. I was walking because after loosing some weight I felt more and more like walking. No side effects. Advantages are lost weight and eating foods that do not have the good cooked out of them. I would highly recommend a raw diet to those who really are willing to go for the change. You will be a much healthy person. The only thing as good is the C.H.I.P. programs. It will also take your carbs down and your lipids and blood pressure, etc. The difference can be seen in blood test within 4-6 weeks on both programs.
