The Slim Fit 180 diet program contains diet pills, nutritional booklets, cookbooks, and an exercise guide. The diet pills they offer have the active ingredient Garcinia cambogia (HCA 70 percent concentration). While most G. cambogia supplement brands offer just the diet pill and nothing more, Slim Fit 180 goes a step further by adding in food choices and an exercise program.

Optimal Health Products operates Slim Fit 180, and they provide a large number of other diet supplements as well. The company opened a Better Business Bureau profile back in 2013, but they have gotten 94 complaints and an F rating.

Company Contact Information: Optimal Health LLC, 427 N. Tatnall St. #73055, Wilmington, DE 19801. Phone: 855-475-3667. Email: [email protected]

The entire program—which includes a 12-month supply of the Slimfit 180 pills, a diet manual (Mediterranean Diet), a cookbook, an exercise DVD series, a 3-issue subscription to International Health and Fitness magazine, and a lifetime access to a private membership website—lists for $399.60 (or 6 payments of $99.90 each, totaling $599.40). Or, you can click for a trial offer…

I couldn’t even find the cost of that trial without giving SlimFit my email address, until I went through some of the complaints on the BBB website. The trial offer is $2.99 for shipping. Then they have you on the hook for the rest of it.

Amazingly, the sales page for the trial offer looks exactly like the sales page for Perfect Garcinia Cambogia and Supreme Fit Garcinia Cambogia, both marketed by Nutra Pure, and both notorious for a trial offer resulting in you unwittingly signing up for a “program” that autoships you every month and auto-bills you as well. (This is called “negative option marketing” )

The only difference with SlimFit is that the company marketing the trial offer is “Garcinia Cambogia XT.” And they changed the HCA concentration in the text, since the others were only 60 percent.

SlimFit 180 Claims

Aside from outlining the program, Slimfit doesn’t really do a lot of crowing. There are a few catchphrases, though:

  • “Ready to do a 180 and get slim and fit in 12 Months”
  • “Direct access to and support from our Certified SlimFit180 Success Team—7 days a week—including: Dr. Ben our in-house Physician … Melissa
our on-staff Certified Nutritionist … Amanda our on-staff Certified Trainer”
  • “You pick the exercise – the series walks you through it. From low-impact Pilates to strength-building exercises with or without weights, the Xtreme Fitness Video Series has all the instruction you need to succeed.”
  • “Start shedding unwanted fat immediately with #1-rated SlimFit 180, a proprietary supplement formulation containing a true 70% hydroxycitric acid (HCA) concentration – clinically researched and proven to reduce appetite, boost metabolism and burn fat. SlimFit 180 is a 100% veggie formulation. Simply the best fast-melting kick-start available.”

They also claim:

  • “If you feel the SlimFit180 program is not for you for any reason, simply call us within 30 days from your order date to make arrangements to return the remaining product and empty bottles.”

Slim Fit 180 Ingredients

There isn’t a picture of the Supplement Facts label anywhere. So while the HCA concentration might be 70 percent, you can’t see up front how much of it you’ll be taking.

The Science (or Lack Thereof) Behind Slim Fit 180

Because this is another HCA diet pill, there is plenty of science floating around about it. But what’s been proven and what hasn’t?

How exactly does HCA work in the body? According to Shape magazine,

First, it suppresses your appetite by increasing serotonin levels. Low levels of serotonin are linked to depression and anxiety, which drive many people to eat emotionally. Thus, as your serotonin levels rise, your mood improves and lessens the drive to reach for food during emotional situations.

Second, HCA stops the fat-making process in your body by inhibiting a key enzyme called citrate lyase that your body needs to make fat from carbohydrates. It also may help lower LDL or “bad” cholesterol.

From WebMD:

Garcinia contains the chemical hydroxycitric acid (HCA). Developing research suggests that HCA might prevent fat storage, control appetite, and increase exercise endurance; however, whether these effects occur in humans is unclear. (emphasis added)

However, the same site does admit there is currently insufficient evidence for

Exercise performance. Taking a chemical compound found in Garcinia called hydroxycitric acid (HCA) might increase how long untrained women are able to exercise. However, it does not seem benefit men in the same way.

Weight loss. Research on the effect of Garcinia on weight loss is inconsistent. Some research shows that taking Garcinia extract that contains 50 hydroxycitric acid (HCA) for 8-12 weeks doesn’t decrease fat breakdown or energy expenditure in overweight people. However, other research suggests that it might improve weight loss when taken for 12 weeks.

A more specific overview on the current updates in G. cambogia research was published online in the 2013 Evidence-Based Complementary and Alternative Medicine journal. In their conclusions:

We have previously reviewed and concluded that Garcinia extract and HCA were generally safe to be consumed. Collective results from 17 clinical studies which involved 873 subjects demonstrated the safety of HCA…for human consumption. These studies provided scientific evidence that intake of HCA…alone did not produce adverse effects and a dietary dosage of up to 2800 mg/day was regarded as the “no observed adverse effect level (NOAEL)”…in human. Based on these animal and human safety data, HCA-SX also received self-affirmed GRAS status in the USA by the Burdock Group in year 2003. However, definitive conclusions that Garcinia/HCA supplements are efficient tools against various health problems especially obesity remain to be proven in larger-scale and longer-term clinical trials, despite substantial public interest in such supplements.

Note: GRAS = “Generally Regarded as Safe”

If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, it is best to stay away from Garcinia Cambogia in general. Always consult your doctor before taking any supplements for the health of you and your baby.

Every supplement affects every individual differently. Gender, age, sometimes race, pre-existing medical conditions, and individual body chemistry—as unique as a fingerprint—can affect how a supplement works on you. That’s why supplements always add that “individual results may vary” disclaimer, and it’s why reviews for a drug or supplement can be all over the spectrum. Only you and your doctor can figure out how it works for you, so always be forthcoming and transparent with your doctor about side effects you experience, as well as if the substance doesn’t seem to be doing anything for you.

Word On The Street About Slim Fit 180

Because there are no outside retailers selling the Slim Fit 180 products, there are limited reviews done on the product. On the Better Business Bureau profile there were multiple negative reviews, most citing the recurring billing procedures they follow if you opt for the two- or three-time billing option.

One anonymous customer said,

This company falsely advertises that you are trying a trial product but when you give them your credit card which they say is simply to charge the billing, they start billing you monthly and say you’re a member of the “club” when you call them to ask them how to canceled because you did not… understand you were joining a club with repeated billing.

Another said,

Company Optimal Health offered one time trial but has set up a recurring month charge to my account. In addition I have never received the products from the second charges. Furthermore the products do not produce the advertised results.

The Bottom Line: Is SlimFit 180 worth a try?

Problematic.Optimal Health as a company is notorious for offering their sneaky free trials, and then hitting the customer’s credit card with a larger bill when they are not expecting it. Their product is nothing special regarding the diet pills themselves, but the diet plan, cookbooks, and exercise guide is a thoughtful touch. But way too expensive.

The Mediterranean Diet is widely available online and in bookstores. Likewise, a lot of great sites for exercise at any age and any fitness level, from walking to weights to resistance bands. G. cambogia products can be as cheap as $10 for a 30-day supply—though the research suggests you do look for one that is solely G. cambogia, not a combination with other substances. Lots of social support groups around, and your own doctor can help you find the best combination of all these moving parts into a better and healthier you.

There are too many red flags with this company and product overall—Slim Fit 180 is best left in the dust.
