This old-time diet has seen success from many people, but it does show its age at the end of the day. It does not make a lot of sense to allow diet sodas and eliminate vegetables all together from someone’s diet. If anything, diet soda has become one of the main culprits for obesity in the United States because of the influx of artificial sweeteners. While the intentions are good and the main message makes sense, there are more up-to-date ways to lose weight. This diet is also not meant to be done long term, and it does not address ways for maintenance when returning back to “normal eating habits” once you are off the diet. All in all, the diet is rather dated, and the ideas of the book stand the test of time only to a point. With today’s knowledge about healthy fats, vegetables, and soda, there are better diets that are far more sophisticated to choose from.
