Zantrex Claims
Their tagline is: “Rapid weight loss, and extreme energy.” I don’t know about you, but thinking about losing rapid amounts of weight does not give me energy! Instead it makes me feel sluggish and depleted. The company makes many claims about theproduct not containing ephedra, and how their product is superior to the number one seller on the market that does. They apparently did a study for 45 days without proper diet and exercise to test its effectiveness. The results? “Subjects using the proven active formula in Zantrex-3, for a little over 6 weeks, experienced an average weight loss of a whopping 11.2 pounds – 1696% more weight loss than the placebo group, and 546% more weight loss per week† (over and above placebo… of course) than the entire group of people who used “America’s best seller” – and that’s without having to follow any prescribed diet plan or supervised exercise program!” [2] So what gives you all of the energy when taking this diet pill? Caffeine. They claim, “This product contains a significantly potent xanthine (i.e., caffeine and caffeine-like stimulants) mixture, of about 300 mg per serving. Consult your physician before use if you are taking caffeine-containing medications or if you are sensitive to stimulants.” [2] It is also not advised that you take this pill if you are breastfeeding or pregnant. They also say, “When it comes to rapid weight loss and incredible energy, Zantrex is at the forefront. For over a decade, our clinically validated, high-energy formulations have been helping people lose weight, feel great, and have more energy than they ever thought possible.” [3] Lastly, another large claim, “Zantrex-3… 546% more weight loss† than the leading ephedra-based diet pill… and that’s a fact. Here’s another fact: Zantrex-3 is way beyond ephedrine, way beyond fat-burners, way beyond everything on the market today.* There are a few different products that the company offers for fat burning and weight loss: Zantrex-3 (Blue Bottle) and Zantrex-3 fat Burner (Red Bottle), Zantrex Skinny-Stix, as well as Zantrex Black formula. The company warns: ‘Do not take Zantrex-3 High Energy Fat Burner (red bottle) and original Zantrex-3 (Blue Bottle) at the same time. Do not substitute one product for the other.” The same warning goes for Zantrex-Black. In this review I am referring to the blue bottle, but wanted to give you the different ingredient lists for the red and black as well.

The Science (or Lack Thereof) Behind Zantrex
When looking into the different studies that have been done regarding Zantrex which back up claims that they’ve made on the website, the information was interesting. There are many claims about ephedra being this amazing weight loss supplement (Zantrex being more effective) but in all reality, ephedra is not effective for long term weight loss in general anyways. “According to the FDA, there is little evidence of ephedra’s effectiveness, except for short-term weight loss. However, the increased risk of heart problems and stroke outweighs any benefits.” [4] Why would you want to compete your brand against an ingredient that does not even have long term benefits? When looking into the main ingredient list, there are three different ingredients that are popular in the weight loss world. The first, yerba mate is a well-known herb used around the world in many tea drinks. What is the main difference between yerba mate and green tea? “The major difference between green tea and Mate tea production is the drying method. Green tea is dried primarily through fast, high-temperature air drying, but Mate tea is dried very slowly and often using wood smoke. This imparts very different flavor characteristics and contributes to changes in chemical makeup and physical appearance.” [5] When looking into an actual study on the effectiveness of Yerba Mate with mice and obesity, they found that it has somewhat of an influence on glucose levels and consuming less food overall. The second ingredient, guarana, is also popular in the weight loss world. Guarana is similar in shape and genetic make up to the coffee bean, and it contains caffeine as well. It is most commonly found in weight loss and energy supplements due to its high caffeine levels. Because caffeine is a nervous system stimulant, it can contribute to giving you more energy, which in turn gets you moving causing some minor weight loss. It also can act as a diuretic which can expel water from the body and make it seem like more weight is lost. All of these causes for weight loss mentioned are short term, which makes the product Zantrex-3 also seem like it is a simple quick fix, not a long term solution. [6] Black pepper is another ingredient that is used in the formula, and it has been wishy washy for weight loss results. There have not been enough studies done on this ingredient to prove that it works in humans, however, there have been studies done where it works in mice. These studies were very much small studies done for short periods of time, and according to NPR,
“Turns out there is some limited evidence that pepper, ginger, and other spicy foods might actually benefit your metabolism. There are a number of studies showing that capsaicin— the stuff that gives chili peppers their heat — can rev-up the motor of our metabolism – and some of them have even been done on humans.” [7]
Overall, when looking at the main weight loss ingredients of the Zantrex-3 diet pill, they are not impressive at all. The ingredients are said to help with appetite suppression and energy, but only for very short periods of time. There are many warnings on the website about caffeine consumption and not overdoing it, which makes me think this is more a caffeine pill than anything else. When looking at the studies done, there is nothing that screams “weight loss” and “long term” by any means, which makes this a quick fix diet solution that will only have you back at the store purchasing more to maintain.
The Word On The Street About Zantrex
When looking into Zantrex-3 and Zantrex Black reviews on the effectiveness of this product, it was apparent to me there were more negatives than positives from people who ordered. The overall feel of the product website, and now seeing actual reviews, leaves a bitter taste in my mouth overall. Common Zantrex-3 side effects are: jitters, sick/nauseous feeling, and minimal results. The Zantrex black side effects are about the same. The results were under par, as expected, for both of the products, and there were more disappointed customers than likely to return customers at the end of the day. The Bottom Line: Is Zantrex Worth A Try?
Depends. The positives lie in the fact that this supplement is easy to get your hands on, it is cheap and won’t break the bank, and there is no auto ship involved. However, you do get what you pay for, and the results from this weight loss pill were less than impressive. The high levels of caffeine make it unhealthy in general, as your daily recommended amount really should not exceed 400 mg. Weight loss, if any actually was seen, was rather short lived, and side effects from taking the caffeine laced pills were unpleasant. This product is popular due to the marketing from the company, but the results were just simply not there for people who tried it.
